Plan your content before you design your website

Designing around placeholder text creates layouts that break when real content arrives. A little content planning up front saves weeks later.

Lorem ipsum hides problems. Real headlines are longer, real product names do not fit in two words, and real pages need sections nobody drew. Planning content first makes the design honest.

Start with the questions visitors ask

List the questions a visitor has on each page, in order. Each answer becomes a section. This keeps pages focused and gives the designer real material to work with.

Decide what is structured

  • Anything repeated (services, team, projects) becomes a content type with fields.
  • Anything shared (contact details, calls to action) lives in one place.
  • Everything else stays flexible, as reusable sections.

Write early drafts

Drafts do not need to be perfect. Even rough copy shows which layouts work and which need rethinking, long before anything is built.
